Promoting your TAPB awards

Each year the Texas Associated Press Broadcasters (“TAPB”) recognizes excellence and achievement in journalism with awards in various categories. Your promotion must state the “Texas Associated Press Broadcasters” (NOT Associated Press) as the award’s source. — Promotional use of the word “Best” will apply only to first-place winners. Any use of a reference to a TAPB award that in any way misleads the public about a TAPB award, including but not limited to distorted or exaggerated claims, is strictly prohibited. Violations of either the spirit or intent of this prohibition may result in the disqualification of the offending entity from TAPB contests for a one-year period. TAPB board reserves all rights to determine the truthfulness of any promotion that uses a reference to TAPB awards. The TAPB will be the sole determiner of whether or not a violation has occurred.

The Texas Associated Press board of directors, during their March 5 board meeting, decided that they would like any 2016 awards plaques for the group – to include the TAPB logo. The TAPB board would also like to see examples of possible plaques before AP agrees to any contract with a company.

n 2nd place certificates will again be done by the former Grubbs Graphics in Dallas. Also, Diana will be in charge of getting the specialty Newscast and other associated plaques, such as Jordan-Flaherty award for cooperation, FOIFT, either done by the new trophy place – or done separately/elsewhere in Dallas.

5. FOIFT

n The board reviewed TAPB/Freedom of Information Foundation of Texas entries and selected a winner, to be announced at the April 9 awards banquet.

Cordova is a 22-year-old senior at the University of Texas at Arlington. Babb is a 20-year-old sophomore at Baylor University in Waco. Each student gets a $3,500 scholarship. Both will be recognized during the TAPB radio and television competition awards banquet on Saturday night, April 9, at the Headliners Club in Austin.
