3. VACANCY on TAPB BOARD: TV vice president.
-- The TAPB board voted to extend an invitation to Mike George, news director at KBTX-TV in Bryan. Mike attended the April convention and had expressed an interest in serving. Chairman Joe Terrell contacted Mike after the conference call, and Mike agreed to serve. A formal board vote is expected at the next conference call to add Mike as television vice president.

4. HEADLINERS FOUNDATION AWARDS LUNCHEON: Saturday, Oct. 9, in Austin.
-- Diana plans to attend. TAPB board members Emily Donahue and Chace Murphy also tentatively agree to attend.

5. TAPB co-sponsored SOUTHWEST BROADCAST SEMINAR, Saturday, Oct. 16,at University of Texas in Austin.
-- Texas Association of Broadcasters representative Michael Schneider had contacted TAPB about possible topics. Board suggested
1. Multimedia
2. TV: How to put on a successful afternoon news show (such as 4 p.m.
start).
Diana will pass suggestions on to Michael. Also some TAPB board
members are expected to attend the Oct. 16 event, including chairman Joe
Terrell.

6. HOTEL/site for April 16, 2011, TAPB convention:
-- Board approved Dallas Marriott Quorum in north Dallas (near the
Tollway & Beltline Road, not far from Dallas AP offices).
It's the hotel where TAPB previously had a couple of conventions in the late 1990s/early 2000. Dallas Marriott Quorum is offering $89 room nights (or $109 with breakfast for two), also banquet dinners in the $35-$45 range (before additional taxes/fees, add about 25 percent).
Diana spoke with hotel representative following conference call, formal contract to be put together, may require deposit (which Diana can pay/on credit card, then seek reimbursement from TAPB).

7. 2011 TAPB CONTEST
-- Barry Bedlan spoke about possibly doing some radio entries judging online this year. Barry says AP is negotiation with a company that could, with all AP contests, make arrangements to post online, etc...but bandwidth issues remain. Emily suggested possibly mailing radio entries to judges this year, just flying in TV judges to Dallas (cost-saving move). Emily also agreed to contact RTDNA (Radio-Television Digital News Association) to get ideas on how that group has entries posted online.

-- TABLED until August conference call: To consider TAPB's annual contribution to the Freedom of Information Foundation of Texas. Last year TAPB donated: $750.
