4. HEADLINERS FOUNDATION/CONTEST:
-- TAPB board member Emily Donahue will attend the Headliners
Foundation luncheon on Saturday, Oct. 24, in Austin. AP's Barry Bedlan
and Kelley Shannon also plan to attend.
-- Emily Donahue updated the TAPB board about proposed new contest
category suggested by Headliners Foundation, as a co-award with TAPB, as
"Best Online Package." Emily attended a Sept. 30 meeting in Austin about
the proposal.
TAPB board discussed whether it would be better to have separate
radio, TV and newspaper competition (Texas AP Managing Editors is the
sister group for newspapers). Some discussion about proposed rewording
of the draft language in the Headliners Foundation proposal.
Board asked Emily to speak with Headliners Foundation representative
Bergan Casey to get further details on the proposal. Board also would
like to invite Bergan and any other Headliners Foundation
representatives to be on the next TAPB conference call, Thursday, Nov.
5, at 10:15 a.m. (central time), for more specific discussions.

5. TAPB DATES TO REMEMBER:
-- Contest rules will move on the wire by late December.
-- Saturday, Feb. 13, entry sorting at Dallas AP.
-- Friday/Saturday, March 6-7, judging at Hilton Homewood Suites in
Grapevine. Board decided to have 8 TV and 2 radio judges for 2010
judging (last year had 10 TV & 2 radio). Fewer entries were received, so
fewer TV judges were needed. Board decided to invite back the 9 judges
(8 TV & 1 radio) who had not judged three straight years. One more radio
judge will be needed. Diana will make some inquiries.
Also OK for Diana to sign the contract for room nights at the Hilton
Homewood Suites in Grapevine, for the judges for March 5-6 (depart on
March 7). Same rate as last year, $99 per room, per night, not including
tax.
